Bastl out in Paris
George Bastl will not be among the Swiss tennis players bidding for glory at this year's French Open, having lost his second round qualifying match in Paris to Argentina's Diego Moyano.
After losing the first set of Thursday’s match 1-6, the Swiss number four appeared to have rediscovered his rhythm in the second set, which he won 6-2.
But Moyano, more than 60 places below Bastl in the world rankings, struck back in the deciding set to complete a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 victory.
Bastl’s defeat ends a run of six Grand Slam events at which the Chicago-born player has managed to qualify for the main draw. His early exit, following the departures of Lorenzo Manta and Ivo Heuberger, leaves just seven Swiss players in the tournament proper, which gets underway on Monday.
