Disappointment for Schnyder

Schnyder found the going unexpectedly tough against Tulyaganova Keystone

Switzerland's Patty Schnyder has been beaten in straight sets by Uzbekistan's Iroda Tulyaganova in the final of the WTA tennis tournament in Vienna.

The Swiss number two (WTA 33) came into Sunday’s match as the slight favourite against a player ranked 15 places below her in the world standings. But Schnyder’s hopes of winning her first title in two and a half years faded fast in the Austrian sunshine.

The 22-year-old from Basel managed to win just five games in a 3-6, 2-6 defeat.

Tulyaganova’s victory was only her second on the WTA tour and her first outside of her homeland. Last season, the 19-year-old won her first tournament in her home city of Tashkent.
