Ice hockey semi-finalists decided
In Saturday's sporting action on the ice, Davos, the Zurich Lions and Lugano all made it through to the Swiss ice hockey semi-finals after winning their best of seven quarter-finals.
Davos went head-to-head with Bern winning 4-2. In front of a sell-out crowd Bern were the first to score with a goal from Weber in the 18th minute.
But Davos went one better in the second period scoring three goals in close succession.
The boys for Graubünden were also the first to score in the third period with a goal from Bohonos bringing the score to 4-1. Bern fought back by scoring again before the final whistle but it was too little, too late.
Davos will now face Kloten in the semi-finals.
Zurich Lions vs Ambri
The Zurich Lions narrowly beat Ambri 4-3 at home. The game was closely contested with victory only decided in an extra fourth period.
The first period saw Ambri take the lead 2-1. Both teams then scored in the second period bringing the goal tally to 2-3 to Ambri.
The Lions started to seriously defend their territory in the third period with a goal from Ivankovic bringing the score level.
It wasn’t until the 68th minute of the fourth period that the king of the jungle asserted his authority with a decisive goal from Stirnimann making the final score 4-3.
Zug vs Lugano
Lugano made short work of Zug and cruised to a 6-3 victory.
The first half was even-stevens with both teams scoring two goals, but Lugano were quick to take the lead in the second period.
The Ticinese side dominated the period’s play scoring four goals in fifteen minutes.
Zug were left reeling but they did manage to limp back and score one more goal in the third period, but it simply wasn’t enough to touch Lugano.
The Italian-speaking side will now face the Zurich Lions in Thursday’s semi-finals.
