June hearing for Sauber
Switzerland's Sauber-Petronas racing team will discover on June 1 if they are to keep the points won by Finnish driver Kimi Raikkonen at last Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix.
Immediately after the May 13 race, the rival BAR Honda team complained that Raikkonen had overtaken illegally under a yellow flag warning. The stewards in Austria rejected the complaint, stating that no incident had been reported by the trackside marshals, at which point BAR launched a formal appeal to the sport’s governing body, the FIA.
That appeal will now be held in Paris on June 1. If Raikkonen were to be excluded, BAR’s French driver, Olivier Panis, would be lifted from fifth to fourth place
Even if Raikkonen were to be docked points by the FIA, Sauber’s points tally would remain impressive. The privately-owned Swiss team has made a dream start to this year’s Formula One season, with Raikkonen and fellow driver Nick Heidfeld eclipsing the efforts of many of their bigger rivals.
