Swiss women yet to win a match in curling championships

The Swiss women's curling team are down on their luck swissinfo.ch

The Swiss women's team continued their grim run at the World Curling Championships in Lausanne after slumping to their seventh straight defeat against Denmark.

Switzerland were hammered by the Danes who raced to a 9-3 lead after only seven ends, at which point the Swiss conceded the match.

The result means the team have a mountain to climb in their search for a first tournament point when they take on Sweden, who lie at the opposite end of the championship table in equal first place.

But there was better news for the Swiss men’s team who ground out a vital 6-5 victory against New Zealand.

The result leaves them in equal first place and on course for a semi-final place and a trip to next year’s Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

The Swiss – represented by the Biel Touring club – showed great character, coming back from 4-0 down in a low-scoring match to snatch a last gasp victory in the 10th end.

The team face important matches on Wednesday against Sweden and Finland who are both level on points with the Swiss.
