The Jungfrau was first climbed by two Swiss brothers from canton Aargau in 1811, who had to identify the peak before taking on the challenge of climbing it.
Among the equipment of one successful ascent in 1828, were three ladders, 84 fathoms of rope, a gun, and an iron flag.
