Factbox-Russia’s Tuapse refinery hit by fire

MOSCOW (Reuters) – A blaze broke out overnight at a Rosneft-owned large oil refinery in the southern Russian town of Tuapse, one of many energy infrastructure facilities hit by fire or drone attacks across Russia in the past week.

Authorities said the fire was put out on Thursday morning.

Following are some facts about export-oriented Tuapse oil refinery:

* The plant is the only large oil refinery in Russia located on the shores of the Black Sea. It is one of the country’s oldest, and was constructed in 1929.

* The refinery has undergone multiple upgrades. In 2013 Russian President Vladimir Putin oversaw commissioning of a new primary crude oil processing unit.

* Plant’s annual capacity stands at 12 million metric tons (240,000 barrels per day).

* Tuapse supplies fuel mainly to Turkey, China, Malaysia and Singapore. It produces naphtha, fuel oil, vacuum gasoil and high-sulphur diesel.
