A party of Christian origins embodying the left wing of the Christian Democratic Party, the Christian Social Party stands at the centre-left of the Swiss political spectrum. It has been active for many years in the cantons of Fribourg, Jura, Valais, Lucerne and Zurich, holding seats in some of the cantonal governments. It established a national section in 1997 and has one seat in the federal parliament.
