I've been living abroad for 50 years and have a distance. Always had a Swiss account with UBS. In 2010 I moved back to Switzerland for my parents. After 12 years, I wanted to go back abroad because I couldn't live in Switzerland with an AHV abroad without help from the municipality. However, I had to close my Swiss account because it was becoming far too expensive. I think that's a shame. My daughter lives in Switzerland with her family. It would be great to have a small savings account in Switzerland.

When I left Switzerland, Raiffeisen Bank made it very clear to me that I had to close my account with Raiffeisen Bank. As I have also been a PostFinance customer (since my youth), this seemed to me to be the solution for abroad. Over the years, however, the charges at PostFinance have continued to rise and now stand at CHF 360 per year, even though there are usually only two movements (AHV and pension fund payments)! All other account movements are billed separately, which pushes up the effective annual charges even further. It is absolutely incomprehensible why accounts of Swiss citizens living abroad are charged such horrendous fees. The work of PostFinance is the same whether I live in Switzerland or in the Far East!
Als ich die Schweiz verlassen hatte, hat mir die Raiffeisen Bank unmissverständlich klar gemacht, dass ich das Konto bei Raiffeisen Bank zu beenden habe. Da ich auch bei PostFinance Kunde bin, (dies seit meiner Jugendzeit), schien mir dies die Lösung für das Ausland zu sein. Im Laufe der Jahre wurden aber die Spesen bei der PostFinance immer weiter erhöht und liegen nun bei 360 Franken pro Jahr, obwohl in der Regel nur zwei Bewegungen (Eingänge AHV und Pensionskasse) stattfinden! Alle anderen Konto Bewegungen werden ja separat abgerechnet, was die effektiven Jahresspesen noch weiter in die Höhe treibt. Es ist absolut nicht nachvollziehbar, weshalb Konten von Auslandschweizern so horrend belastet werden. Die Arbeit der PostFinance ist dieselbe, ob ich nun in der Schweiz wohne, oder im fernen Osten!

I live in France and have a CHF bank account with Migros Bank. I find them very good, very oriented towards internet banking. The cost of having an account with them is CHF 5 per month (so CHF 60 per year). It's strange that nobody has mentioned Migros Bank in the discussion.

Does anyone have experience with Wise for AHV (SAK)?
What I have learnt so far:
* PostFinanz at SFr 30 per month is too expensive for my small pension.
* Yuh does not transfer to Canada (only Europe).
* SAK can pay out to a foreign account. SAK bears the sender costs.
* My Canadian bank is too expensive at CAD 17 (CHF 11) per transfer.
* Wise allows me to have an account in CHF. So I can use AHV money in Switzerland and transfer it to my Canadian bank at an acceptable cost.
One open question is whether the SAK can transfer to Wise in CHF.
Hat jemand Erfahrung mit Wise für die AHV (SAK)?
Was ich bis jetzt gelernt habe:

kantonalbank geneva is the most favourable bank for swiss expats! used to be postbank, but that's not the case anymore. i myself have UBS, but i also have special conditions that not everyone has xD

I now only have one account with yuh. It's a multi-currency account and incredibly practical for the Swiss abroad. You have a Swiss IBAN, but you can hold several currencies in the same account.
And it costs nothing!
Everything else was just too expensive for me. Nevertheless, it's an advantage to have a Swiss IBAN from time to time, otherwise you keep losing money because there are fees for every exchange
Ich habe nur noch ein Konto bei yuh. Es ist ein Multiwährungskonto und für Auslandsschweizer unglaublich praktisch. Man hat eine Schweizer IBAN, kann aber mehrere Währungen im gleichen Konto führen.

The same with post-finance, only 60.-
But at Raiffeisen, we pay 240 because we still have a mortgage there.
Unfortunately, they know that we live abroad.
So there are options if you do it a bit cleverly.

One has there a Swiss account with Swiss francs at MUCH BETTER conditions than in Switzerland. Normal fees and better interest rates than in Switzerland on Swiss francs. Fees for Swiss current account 5.90 per month!!!!

Man hat dort ein Schweizer Konto mit Schweizerfranken zu VIEL BESSEREN Konditionen als in der Schweiz. Normale Gebühren und besseren Zinsen als in der Schweiz auf Schweizer Franken. Gebühren für Schweizer Girokonto 5.90 im Monat!!!!
Anmeldung auch über Video ,also muss man auch nicht vor Ort erscheinen.

3 banks have cancelled the accounts when emigrating and one has me the fees massively increased and I could not do anything.Bruche necessarily an account with Swiss francs.
Am now in conversation with a German bank whether there are possibilities Swiss francs as a current account to open with them.

3 Banken haben die Konten gekündigt bei der Auswanderung und die eine hat mir die Gebühren massiv erhöt und ich konnte nichts machen.Bruche unbedingt ein Konto mit Schweizerfranken.
Bin nun im Gespräch mit einer Deutschen Bank ob es möglichkeiten gibt Schweizer Franken als Girokonto bei denen zu eröffnen.

I am living in Australia for 8 years and I have an account at Raiffeisen. In May this year I couldn't access ebanking anymore. Their explanantion was that there are "new rules" from Oz. The only way to access my account is 1) go there personally or 2) authorise a person in Switzerland. I then asked them a few more questions
- what about the mortgage of our house in Switzerland (also at Raiffeisen) ?
- what about the accounts of our kids - one is an adult and one is a minor ?
From there onwards there was silence - my account is still blocked. I then sent my sister in Switzerland to the bank to investigate. She was told that it is best to remove all the kids money and that all the staff were basically "silenced" - to communicate with me !!
My main person at the bank with whom I just recently signed a new contract for my mortgage does not reply to any of my mails anymore. They treat me like a criminal or a suspect of tax fraud.
The point is that I need an account as the house is rented and the tenant pays his rent monthly. From that account I pay insurances, repairs, garden maintenance and my AHV.
A clear statement of Raiffeisen is still outstanding despite writing to Finma, the chairman of the branch as well as the headquarters in St. Gallen.
In the meantime I need to find a solution.

Perhaps it is worthwhile to sign a contract with the sister*, so that she maintains the account or accounts for you ( of course depends on the relationship that they have among themselves ) and simply mails you all movements.
Have also experienced in the past unpleasant with the Raiffeisen, have then switched to Postfinance (but which has also become stricter against foreign Swiss)
* with lawyer, since also testament matters must be noted.
Or: make a half-yearly subscription for the Beobachter and take advantage of the advice.................

Vielleicht lohnt es sich, mit der Schwester einen Vetrag zu unterschreiben*, so, dass sie das oder die Konten unterhaelt fuer Sie ( kommt natuerlich auf das Verhaeltnis an, das sie untereinander haben ) und Ihnen einfach alle Bewegungen mailt.
Habe in der Vergangenheit auch Unangenehmes erlebt mit der Raiffeisen, habe damals zur Postfinance gewechselt ( die aber auch strikter geworden ist gegen Auslandschweizer )
* mit Rechtsanwalt, da auch Testamentangelegenheiten notiert werden muessen.
Oder: ein Halbjahresabo fuer den Beobachter machen und die Beratungen in Anspruch nehmen.................

Signing a contract with relatives is not an option.
But in the meantime I have found a solution. The organisation of the Swiss abroad has entered a partnership with the Genfer Kantonalbank. They offer a dedicated service for the Swiss abroad and allow to run bank accounts at a reasonable rate. They even have a dedicated team for Auslandschweizer. The only thing is - you need to go there personally to open an account. I will do all this in November and transfer everything to them.

When I was still living in Switzerland, I had an account with Coop Bank, now Bank Cler. I need this account because I have a property in Switzerland. So where the money on the account comes from is very clear. But the charges and fees that Bank Cler charges are demolition. I have now read in swissinfo that there is an Internetbnak, especially for Swiss abroad, operated by Bank Cler. When I asked there, I was answered that they do not open an account for people living abroad. After reading some of the articles here, I might try to switch to BCGE. Or check how good an account with Currency fair could be for my purposes.
Schon ich noch in der Schweiz gelebt habe, habe ich ein Konto bei der Coop Bank, heute Bank Cler. Dieses Konto brauche ich da ich eine Liegenschaft in der Schweiz habe. Woher das Geld auf dem Konto kommt, ist also sonnenklar. Aber die Speesen und Gebuehren die die Bank Cler verrechnet, sind Abriss. Habe nun in swissinfo gelesen dass es eine Internetbnak gibt, speziell fuer Auslandschweizer, betrieben von Bank Cler. Als ich dort anfragte, wurde mir geantwortet, dass sie kein Konto eroeffnen fuer Leute mit Wohnsitz im Ausland. Nachdem ich nun hier einige Beitraege gelesen habe, versuche ich evtl zu BCGE zu wechseln. Oder klaere ab wie gut ein Konto bei Currency fair sein koennte feur meien Zwecke.

Yes, I do but changed from Postfinance to BCGE. PostFinance charged CHF360/year while BCGE only charges CHF 128, still a lot but it’s practical for me. Drawback,you need to open the account personally in Switzerland, they have a few offices beside Geneva. Now I only use it online and am very happy with it.

Ja, auch Basel. Dort habe ich dann auch mein Konto anmelden können. Finde es einfach haarreisend, dass wir Auslandschweizer für den horrenden Steuerhinterzug der UBS und CS etc. mit reichen Amerikaner solche Probleme haben. War auch an der Zeit, mit dem Bankgeheimnis aufzuhören.

My banking solution only works for Swiss living in France.
CA-Next Bank (Switzerland) has some branches in Switzerland (Zurich, Basel, Geneva etc.) and offers the possibility to open several accounts. If you have a balance of at least Fr. 10'000.-- on all accounts together, the accounts are largely free of charge. Online access works very well, the customer service is also top. We have been customers of CA Next Bank for over 25 years.
As an ex-banker, I am ashamed of how the Swiss banks treat the Swiss abroad. Even in the last few years, two banks have terminated my customer relationship because we reside in France.
Especially disturbing as a landlord with property in Switzerland, we are dependent on bank accounts. Even banks that open rental deposit accounts for our tenants take the deposits where we are also listed as landlords, but deny us the opportunity to open an account unless we would deposit very high funds / investments. Once again, the banking industry proves that they are primarily interested only in rich and super-rich customers.
The only drawback of the CA Next Bank solution is that it is only available for clients residing in FR or CH.

Wenn man auf allen Konten zusammen ein Guthaben von mind. Fr. 10'000.-- werden die Konten weitestgehend Gebührenfrei geführt. Online Zugang funktioniert bestens, die Kundenberatung ist auch top. Wir sind seit über 25 Jahren Kunde bei CA Next Bank.
Als Ex-Banker schäme ich mich wie sich die Schweizer Bankgen gegenüber den Auslandschweizer:innen umgehen. Selbst haben mir in den letzten Jahren zwei Banken die Kundenbeziehung gekündigt, weil wir Wohnsitz in Frankreich haben.
Besonders störend als Vermieter mit Liegenschaftenbesitz in der Schweiz sind wir auf Bankkonten angewiesen. Selbst Banken die für unsere Mieter Mietkautionskonten eröffnen, nehmen die Kautionen wo wir auch als Vermieter geführt werden, verwehren uns aber die Möglichkeit ein Konto zu eröffnen, ausser wir würden sehr hohe Mittel / Anlagen deponieren. Einmal mehr beweist die Bankbranche dass sie primär nur an reichen und Superreichen Kunden interessiert sind.
Wehrmutstropfen an der CA Next Bank Lösung - geht nur für Kunden:innen mit Wohnsitz FR oder CH.
Hoffe dennoch ich konnte etwas zum Thema beitragen.

One more comment on my contribution concerning the Cantonal Bank of Geneva:
It may not be necessary to travel to Switzerland (Zurich or Geneva). With UBS, I was able to arrange it in writing at one time, with a notarized signature.
And if you do want to (and are able to) travel to Switzerland, it is essential to make an appointment in advance!
Noch eine Anmerkung zu meinem Beitrag betreffend Genfer Kantonalbank:
Eine Anreise in die Schweiz (Zürich oder Genf) ist eventuell nicht unbedingt notwendig. Mit der UBS konnte ich es einerzeit schriftlich regeln, mit notariell beglaubigter Unterschrift.
Und falls Sie doch anreisen woillen (und können), vorgängig unbedingt einen Termin vereinbaren!
