Clinton holds brief talks with Swiss leaders

President Clinton also held talks with Swiss government leaders, including the President, Adolf Ogi, during his stay in Davos. Relations between the two countries were described as excellent.

Clinton met a Swiss delegation headed by Ogi, and including the foreign minister, Joseph Deiss, finance minister, Kaspar Villiger and the economics minister, Pascal Couchepin.

“The friendly atmosphere in the talks is testimony that relations between Switzerland and the United States are excellent” said Deiss.

The discussions covered bilateral issues, Kosovo and the Middle East peace process. The US President praised Switzerland’s role in helping to bring peace to Kosovo, Ogi said after the 20-minute meeting.

He added that Switzerland’s role in attempting to bring Iran and the US closer togther had also been mentioned. Switzerland has represented both countries in each other’s capitals since they broke off relations in 1980.
