Lambiel takes silver in European championships

Stéphane Lambiel is now looking to the Olympics Keystone

Swiss figure skating star Stéphane Lambiel has won the silver medal at the European figure skating championships in Tallinn, Estonia.

After coming only fifth in the short programme, the 24-year-old from canton Valais performed strongly on Thursday and scored 238.54 points to finish second to Olympic champion, Yevgeny Plushenko, of Russia.

Last year’s champion, the Frenchman, Brian Joubert, came third.

Lambiel, a two-time world champion, who had come out of retirement, has now secured a spot for the Swiss Olympic team, and his strong performance in Tallinn should make him a medal contender in Vancouver next month.
