Head of Swiss-Canadian Alcan group resigns

The head of the Swiss-Canadian aluminium concern, Alcan, has resigned.

The group’s president, Jacques Bougie, announced on Thursday that he was stepping down with immediate effect from the group’s board in order to spend more time with his family.

Bougie said “personal reasons” were behind his surprise decision. “There is never an opportune moment to take such a decision,” Bougie said in a statement.

Bill Blundell, a board member, is to replace Bougie until a permanent replacement is found for Bougie.

Last October, Canada’s Alcan Aluminium group and Switzerland’s Algroup merged to create the world’s second biggest aluminium producer, worth SFr22 billion ($12.4 billion).
