Tasty numbers at Lindt and Sprüngli

Lindt & Sprüngli's chocolate sales outperformed the markets Keystone Archive

The Swiss chocolate group, Lindt and Sprüngli, saw sales increase last year by 6.7 per cent to SFr1.54 billion ($928 million). This corresponds to a growth of 5.7 per cent in local currencies.

Although chocolate consumption in Europe rose only slightly, the group continued to outperform the markets, the company said in a statement.

Lindt and Sprüngli’s two US subsidiaries also both posted above average figures.

The company explained that sales in all product groups such as chocolate bars, pralines and seasonal products, continued to rise. Easter sales were particularly successful and grew significantly thanks to a number of innovations.

The Kilchberg-based company said an increase in operating profits would likely exceed the expansion in its sales.
