Unique Zurich Airport reports a successful financial year

Unique Zurich Airport expects its turnover to keep on climbing this year Keystone

The company that runs Zurich Airport, Unique Zurich Airport, has reported successful results for the year 2000, despite a drop in net profit by 6.7 per cent to SFr89.8 million ($52.21 million).

However, profit before taxes increased by 10 per cent to SFr113.2 million, according to a statement released on Tuesday. Turnover rose to SFr522.5 million.

The year 2000 was the first time that the company paid taxes after its privatisation.

The statement added that the number of passengers using the airport last year increased by 8.4 per cent to 22.7 million, while 545,000 tonnes of freight passed through the airport.

Unique Zurich Airport said it expected turnover to be around SFr600 million this year, with an increased net profit.

The company has said it intends to exploit the sales potential offered by its operations, while at the same time substantially increasing its non-aviation business.

It believes a key factor in this connection will be the realisation of the Fifth Expansion of the airport, which will double the space dedicated to commercial and service activities by 2004.

Unique’s international strategy includes plans to expand the company’s worldwide consultancy services for other airports.
