Bastl (ATP 79) was knocked out in the first round of the ATP tournament in Washington, losing 3-6, 6-7 to the young Argentinian, Guillermo Coria (ATP 182).

Bastl has lost eight of the last 10 games he has played, and his last performance of any note goes back to March, when he reached the third round of the tournament in Key Biscayne.

For the 18 year-old Coria, junior champion in last year's French Open, the competition in Washington is only the fourth ATP tournament he has taken part in this season.
