Building sector grows once again
The Swiss construction sector has rebounded following a setback in 2006, the Federal Statistics Office said on Monday.
In total, spending in the sector was worth SFr52.2 billion ($49.79 billion) in 2007, a 3.1 per cent increase over the previous year. In real terms though, spending actually fell 1.3 per cent due to increased costs.
The value of new projects climbed 1.9 per cent to SFr31.9 billion while renovations rose 6.4 per cent, to SFr16.3 billion.
Excluding publicly funded maintenance projects, the figure stood at SFr48.2 billion.
The statistics office expects construction sector spending to grow by 0.7 per cent this year.
