Early snow and sunny weekends boosted the turnover of cable car operators in the winter season that has just finished.

The operators’ association said on Friday that turnover had increased by an average of 20 per cent compared with the previous year.
Lower-lying winter resorts, which had no snow the previous season, benefited in particular from the excellent conditions. The fact that people did not have to travel far to find plentiful snow attracted large numbers of extra visitors to the slopes.
Favourable exchange rates also played a role. In particular, more French tourists went to the southern canton of Valais.
