Tuesday’s shareholder meeting in Dietikon, near Zurich, approved Leuenberger’s nomination despite a political controversy over business mandates for former cabinet members.
Moves are underway in parliament to impose an official cooling-off period for mandates which have a close link with portfolio of the retired politician.
Leuenberger stepped down as cabinet minister last November after 15 years at the helm of the ministry in charge of transport, energy, environment and communication.
Other ex-cabinet members who have gone on to hold senior positions in industry include former Finance Minister Kaspar Villiger who acts as chairman of the UBS bank.
