Ski resorts given gift of white Christmas

Swiss ski regions have received plenty of snow just in time for the holiday season.

More than half a metre of fresh snow has fallen in some parts of the Swiss Alps since Tuesday.

After a dry autumn that was the second warmest on record, wet weather – and with it snow in higher regions – returned in the first week of December.

Many ski areas including popular resorts like Zermatt, Wengen and St Moritz are reporting powder conditions, with at least half a metre of snow.

More snow is forecast for the next two days across the Alps with a few days of sunny, stable weather beginning on Christmas day.
