A Stradivarius Concert (MH 18/1972)

One of the world's finest Stradivarius collections, violins, violas and cellos, belongs to Swiss businessman and music-lover Rolf Habisreutinger of St. Gall.

He has created a foundation, enabling talented performers, both amateurs and professionals, to play these priceless instruments on special occasions. One of Habisreutinger’s violins is the “King George” Stradivarius, belonging to its builders “Golden Period” instruments (around 1790). These recordings were made specially for the MUSICA HELVETICA series.

Background information

Switzerland is a small alpine nation shaped and influenced by great cultural cross-currents that have swept through Europe over centuries. Out of elements of diversity, the people of this country have forged a distinctly Swiss identity. And music is one of its most eloquent expressions. “Musica Helvetica” explores different facets of music in Switzerland from its earliest beginnings to the latest works of modern Swiss composers, from folk music to rock and jazz.
