Alpentöne (Sound of the Alps) – A cross section of the 2011 festival

swissinfo.ch

Imaginary Folk Music. Located in Altdorf, at the north gate of the Gotthard Pass, Alpentöne has become over the past decade an eminent biannual festival of imaginary folk music featuring Europe's rich alpine sound cultures. This three-day gathering usually spotlights ancient music in current crossover renditions. The 2011 edition presented once again a diverse bunch of ensembles ranging from Kaspar Ewald's avantgarde sonorities to the melomania of a Gianluigi Trovesi along with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana. Noteworthy were eifachs.ch, a pool of top brass players from Switzerland's classical scene, who performed breakneck peasant music composed by Ferdinand Lötscher (1842-1904) from Entlebuch, canton Lucerne.
