Award for Swiss-Russian film
A Swiss-Russian documentary has picked up an award from the Seville Festival of European Cinema.
The Mother, by Antoine Cattin and Pavel Kostomarov, was named the winner of the Eurodoc prize at the festival on Saturday.
The filmmakers were given €30,000 (SFr45,600) to go towards the Spanish distribution of the film.
The film was three years in the making and follows a woman’s fight for the survival of her nine children in Russia.
Earlier this year it earned the best newcomer prize at the Visions du Réel festival in Nyon and was named best documentary at the 2008 European Film Awards.
Two other Swiss documentaries were in the running for the prize: Hidden Heart by Christina Karrer and Werner Schweizer and The Fortress by Fernand Melgar.
