The 71-year-old artist renewed a contract with cantonal and city authorities this week — the third time he has done so since he moved to the Swiss city from Brussels in 1987.
“Dancing is not fireworks but work that has to take place continuously over time,” Béjart said.
There was no reason to leave the city of Lausanne, which had treated him so “wonderfully,” he added.
Lausanne mayor Jean-Jacques Schilt (right) said he was pleased that the artistic partnership that had made Lausanne famous in Europe as well as Japan would continue.
He said he was looking forward to a 13th season of Béjart performances next year, including new works to be brought to the stages of Beirut and Paris.
