Colin Vallon: Rruga

swissinfo.ch

Contemporary. The ECM debut of young pianist Colin Vallon is entitled Rruga, which means voyage in Albanian. This artist from French-speaking Switzerland has already garnered nationwide praise for his lyrical post-Evans playing. Nevertheless, Rruga signifies a stylistic change, with Vallon and his longtime working trio entering freer fields and giving their music an overall slow motion feel. These compositions, contributed by all band members, place the emphasis on group playing. Some of the pieces make use of the prepared piano sound, which leads to remarkably nice coloraturas.
