Eduard Brunner: Music for Solo Clarinet

Modern / Clarinet Solo. Swiss-born, German-based Eduard Brunner is one the world's leading clarinettists in the avant-garde field. This virtuoso player studied his instrument in Basel and later in Paris with the legendary Louis Cahuzac. Afterwards he took up a post as a soloist with the Bavarian Symphony Orchestra under Rafael Kubelik. Nonetheless, it is Brunner's lifelong devotion to modern music that has made him famous. Over the years he has commissioned numerous works by notable composers such as Helmut Lachenmann, Toshio Hosokawa, Edison Denisov a.o. This album is an ample monologue with this youthful seventy-something exploring the full range - emotionally and technically - of his reed instrument. This fervent plea for contemporary composers has currently entered the Quarterly Critics' Choice by The German Record Critics' Award.
