Festival turns Engadine into scenic stage for the arts

The 2nd Festival of the Arts in Switzerland is underway in the Engadine. This celebration of creativity and originality, showcasing the work of some 800 artists, could not be staged in a more suggestive location.

The event aims to bring art and culture out of the concert hall, art gallery and theatre, and into the natural beauty of Graubünden’s picturesque valleys and villages.

Its organisers describe the event as one “immersed in a festival of sensuous impressions (in which one) walks through larch woods and concert halls, through meadows and fields of sound, along rocks and screens, through the murmuring of music and the silence of the lakes.”

The Festival features 100 musical events, of which five symphonic orchestra performances. There will also be 10 premieres, and an equal number of cultural walks. Backed by Switzerland’s key cultural associations, the event aims to make the arts accessible to all.
