Severin Berz: Hang Meditaton Music
World / new age. Hang is a metal instrument with a pumkin shape, which was created by Bernese steel drum builders Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer back in 1999. Their innovation was suggested by Swiss percussionist Reto Weber, who then was on the search after an instrument which combined steel drum with the Indian Ghatam. Ever since the hang (meaning hand in Bernese dialect, for it is played with both hands) has gained wide success in crossover music circles all around the globe. Basically its eight tones, drawn from the pentatonic scale, make it a perfect vehicle for world music.
