5-0 romp a reality Czech for hockey squad
The Swiss hockey team have suffered their first defeat in four games with a 5-0 loss at the hands of the Czech Republic at the International Ice Hockey Championship.
The team, which includes three players from the National Hockey League, were unable to keep up with their more aggressive opponents.
“My guys don’t have NHL offensive skills, but they do have NHL defensive skills,” coach Ralph Krueger had said earlier in the tournament.
That was enough to keep Thursday’s game in Quebec City competitive up until the end of the first period.
Almost 20 minutes into the game, Czech forward Martin Erat scored the match’s first goal against Swiss net minder Martin Gerber. The team would go on to score four more times over the next two periods.
The offensively stronger Czech Republic side also finished the game with a 33-12 shots-on-goal edge.
