Agreement reached on speeding up asylum
The processing of asylum seekers should be speeded up, representatives of the government and cantons agreed on Thursday.
The Swiss justice minister, Simonetta Sommaruga, and Swiss cantonal justice and police directors said Switzerland would have to work closely with other states, particularly signatories to the Dublin accord to make it easier to deport rejected asylum seekers.
Switzerland, they added, is faced with an increase in people seeking asylum.
Sommaruga said the government was making emergency plans to accommodate more asylum seekers, which would be presented to the cantonal authorities.
She did not reveal any details.
