BMW Sauber team grabs Canadian Grand Prix title
The Swiss-based Formula One Team BMW Sauber has won its first Grand Prix title, clinching the top spots in Montreal on Sunday.
Its pilot, Robert Kubica, also wrested the championship lead from McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton who was involved in a pile-up early in the race.
Kubica’s team-mate, Nick Heidfeld came second ahead of Britain’s David Coulthard.
Last year Kubica suffered the worst crash of his career at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Sauber and BMW formed an alliance in 2006 with Switzerland’s Peter Sauber acting as advisor.
The production of BMW Sauber is based outside Zurich, while the engines are built in Munich, Germany.
