Federer triumphant in first round of Monte Carlo tennis tournament
Switzerland's Roger Federer has cruised to victory in the first round of the Masters Series tennis tournament in Monte Carlo. The Swiss beat his American opponent, Michael Chang, in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
Chang got off to a flying start breaking the 19 year-old’s serve twice in the first set but then lost control of the match.
After a shaky start, Federer, went on to rule the game.
After the match the Swiss player said he had started off badly and made too many errors. “I should have played more angles. That started to come at the end of the first set,” he added.
Federer, one of the rising stars of Swiss tennis, won his first title this year in Milan and reached the quarterfinals of the Ericsson Open in Florida.
It has not yet been announced who Federer will face in the second round of the $2.95 million dollar (SFr5 million) tournament.
