Klöden wins Tour de Romandie
The 32-year-old German cyclist Andreas Klöden has won the Tour de Romandie for the first time in his career.
Klöden, who races for the controversial Astana team, finished a total of 35 seconds ahead of Roman Kreutiger from the Czech Republic and 43 seconds ahead of Italian Mario Pinotti.
The fifth and final stage of the 154km race from Le Bouveret to Lausanne was won on Sunday by the Italian sprinter Daniele Bennati ahead of Markus Zberg from Switzerland and Maxim Iglinsky from Kazakhstan.
Astana, sponsored by a coalition of state-owned companies from Kazakhstan, pulled out of the 2007 Tour de France because of a blood doping scandal and is banned from entering this year’s competition.
