Striking railworkers reject management offer
Swiss Federal Railways Cargo workers in Bellinzona have decided to continue their strike despite a proposal by management to suspend planned job cuts.
At a meeting at the southern Swiss freight unit they said the offer made on Wednesday was not sufficient to end industrial action, which began nearly a week ago.
Local politicians, the Church and thousands of people in the southern Ticino region are supporting the strike.
Strikers also decided to travel to the Fribourg site of the cargo division to convince fellow workers to join the action.
Federal Railways says it stands by its offer.
Last week it announced plans to axe more than 400 jobs at sites across Switzerland after a series of deficits and following restructuring at the cargo unit.
