Multi-age learning in primary school
For the past seven years, Barberêche School in canton Fribourg has been engaged in a unique pilot project. Children from the ages of four to eight learn to read, write and do basic arithmetic together in the same classroom.

At the same time, the children learn how to collaborate and benefit from the diverse age group. Launched in 2003-2004, some ten Swiss cantons and Liechtenstein now follow the “Basic Level” learning programme. (Christoph Balsiger and Stefania Summermatter, swissinfo.ch)
