The third seed beat Teixeira, ranked 181 in the world, 6-3, 6-0, 6-2 in Wednesday’s match in Paris.

Federer was broken once early in the first set. But after Teixeira held to make it 3-3, Federer went on to dominate the rest of the match, running off 13 straight games until the Frenchman made it 4-1 in the third set.

The Swiss, who won the tournament in 2009, will go on to play Janko Tipsarevic from Serbia.

Federer is still on course for meeting 14th-seeded countryman Stanislas Wawrinka in the quarterfinals.
