Zurich Grasshoppers failed to defeat lower-ranked local rivals, FC Zurich, on Monday evening, drawing 1-1 at the Letzigrund stadium. In other play, St Gallen and Servette drew 0-0.

Before a crowd of 12,500 spectators, Grasshoppers took the lead in the 50th minute with a goal by Petric. Seven minutes later, however, FC Zurich equalised thanks to Bartlett.

Meanwhile in Monday's other match, St Gallen drew with Servette in a scoreless match.

St Gallen were playing with a weakened team, with Guido suspended, and Thüler, Gane, Walker and Alder injured.

Servette for their part were deprived of Vurens, Thurre, Vanetta and Ippoliti.

The scores leave Lugano top of the league table with 25 points, followed by Lausanne on 24. St Gallen are third with 19, followed by Grasshoppers with 17.

Neuchatel Xamax remain solidly rooted to the bottom of the table with just seven points from their first 11 games.
