Firefighters topped the poll in 15 of 25 countries surveyed by the organization GfK. In Switzerland 96% of respondents found them trustworthy while politicians came out bottom with 21%.
The poll looked at 30 professions common in all 25 countries and included responses from 28,659 people overall.
In Switzerland, where 1,017 people were surveyed, paramedics and nurses were rated a close second (both 95%), with pilots, tram chauffeurs and pharmacists being rated trustworthy by more than 90% of Swiss surveyed.
Around half of Swiss respondees found professional athletes (52%), bankers (51%), advertising professionals (49%) and insurance agents (49%) dependable.
Overall, Swiss had basic trust in 71% of the professions.
