Jones to replace Reiterer as EU ambassador

European’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, says she will appoint 25 new heads of the European delegations around the world.

Included in the changes are British diplomat Richard Jones, who is to take over from the first EU ambassador to Switzerland, Michael Reiterer of Austria.

These appointments are part of the 2011 rotation of heads of delegation and include 16 candidates from member states diplomatic services, seven from the European External Action Service and two from the European Commission.

The new appointments also include eight women, taking the number up to 31.

Reiterer has been in his post in Bern since 2007.
