Swiss cyclist Fabian Cancellara has won the prologue of the Tour of California in Palo Alto.

Cancellara, who won the 2007 prologue of the Tour de France, completed the 3.4 kilometre course in three minutes and 51.2 seconds, almost five seconds ahead of Britain’s Bradley Wiggins.
Tyler Farrar of the United States finished in third position.
The Swiss rider, who is a two-time world time trial champion, said afterwards that he had no fears about his form but had been a little nervous because this was his first ride of the new season.
The eight-day event ends on Sunday with the stage from Santa Clarita to Pasadena.
