We know that there were Schwingfeste (Swiss style wrestling matches) in the mountainous valleys of the Berner Oberland, Emmental, Entlebuch and in Central Switzerland for hundreds of years (1750 Easter Monday Schwingfest in Bern; 1805 and 1808 in Unspunnen, Interlaken).
