Olympic committee is optimistic about Beijing
The International Olympic Committee head has said he remains "very optimistic" about the success of the 2008 Games in Beijing.
Jacques Rogge was speaking at the opening of the committee’s SFr11 million ($10.5 million) new offices in Lausanne on Monday.
Rogge said the building was a sign that the committee wanted to concentrate its activities in Lausanne.
Sport Minister Samuel Schmid, present at the inauguration, described the new Pavilion multipurpose facility as “another pearl for Lausanne”, and expressed his hope that the upcoming Games would bring moments of “intense joy”.
Rogge told assembled guests that there remained a few elements to refine for the Beijing Olympics but he was happy that the official torch had passed through Tibet smoothly.
The committee’s immediate priorities will be anti-doping activities and curbing illegal betting which had become a major problem, he added.
