Röthlin achieves marathon win in Japan
Viktor Röthlin of Switzerland won the Tokyo Marathon on Sunday, finishing in a personal best time of two hours, seven minutes and 23 seconds.
Röthlin, the bronze medallist in the world championships in August in Osaka, broke his personal record by nearly a minute.
“To be third in Osaka and then win here at a place where marathon is so popular is unbelievable,” Röthlin said. “I’m so happy I can’t put it into words.”
Japan’s Arata Fujiwara finished second, more than a minute behind, and Kenya’s Julius Gitahi was third.
