Ammann led the field in Bischofshofen, Austria after his first jump of 136 metres but had to settle for third place and fifth in the tournament after a second attempt of only 131.5m.

The winner of the Bischofshofen event was Austrian Thomas Morgenstern followed by Finland's Janne Ahonen.

Yet another Austrian - Andreas Kofler - was the overall Four Hills winner. He came fifth in Wednesday’s event.

In cross-country’s Tour de Ski race in Cortina, Italy, Cologna was part of a three-way sprint to the finish, crossing the line only 0.4 seconds behind Norway’s Petter Northug.

Northug’s win in the 36-kilometer freestyle race won him back the overall lead in the Tour de Ski standings. But his lead on Cologna is only 0.4 seconds – the fraction he edged him out by on Wednesday.

Three of the eight Tour de Ski races are still to come.
