Rüegg is number two in four-man bob

Swiss driver Ivo Rüegg had to settle for the World Cup silver in the four-man bobsleigh on Sunday, losing to Germany’s André Lange at the European Championship.

It was the fifth silver medal for Rüegg at the European Championship, setting big expectations for the Vancouver Games for the native of canton Schwyz.

Countrymen Beat Hefti and Daniel Schmid, the first- and third-place finishers in the two-man event on Saturday, were not in the running. Hefti placed tenth and Schmid missed the second qualification round.

Germany’s Lange remains at the top of his game. The Turin double Olympic champion has won four events this year. Sunday’s win was his eighth at the European Championship.

Lange will retire at the end of this season.
