The Swiss defeat means they do not go through to the semi-finals. The team will now have to battle Holland on Friday to secure fifth or eighth place.

Portugal is set to face Italy in the semi-finals, while Spain is due to play France.

This is the first time since 1969 that the championships have been played on Swiss soil.
