The Swiss and Austrian football associations presented their formal candidature to host the sport's second biggest international competition with a gala evening in Vienna last August.
With bidding nations having to submit their dossiers to UEFA by the end of May 2002 in time for a final decision in December, Swiss football fans will be hoping for an extra special Christmas present in 12 months time.
