Denner announces expansion plans

The discount supermarket chain, Denner, has announced an expansion plan which aims to more than double the number of branches by 2004.

The discount supermarket chain, Denner, has announced an expansion plan which aims to more than double the number of branches by 2004.

“In four years time we hope to have 650 Stores, comprising of 400 Denner-Top-Discount stores and 250 spin offs,” explained the 28-year-old Denner Chief, Phillippe Gaydoul, in an interview in the Basler Zeitung newspaper. He said they hoped to surpass the current 212 spin-off stores within the next four months.

Gaydoul said last year’s growth figures proved that discount stores still have plenty of growth potential.

Gaydoul also said the driving force behind the chain will continue to be his 83-year-old grandfather, Karl Schweri, although Schweri will be scaling back his involvement in the day to day operations. “If something does not please him, he will naturally intervene,” said Gaydoul. Concerning his grandfather’s political activities, Gaydoul said he would continue to support Schweri.
