The head of Swiss armaments, Toni Wicki, has signed a second contract, worth SFr152 million, for the acquisition of the Florako air surveillance system.
The deal is with the United States-French consortium Raytheon-Thomson and was adopted by the Swiss parliament in the framework of the 1999 armaments programme.
Swiss companies will take part in the programme as sub-contractors with a participation representing about 20 percent of the total.
Florako is to replace the present Florida air surveillance system which is considered obsolete.
The new system can control both military and civil air traffic and is being introduced in stages until completion in 2005.
The Defence Ministry says further contracts in the 1999 armaments programme are to be signed between now and the end of the year.
These include equipment for broadcasting, ammunition, supply vehicles, trucks, a training simulator and equipment for rescue troops.
