St Gallen keeps on rockin’

The weekend "tent city" at St Gallen open air festival Keystone

Switzerland's oldest open air rock festival takes place in St Gallen this weekend after overcoming financial problems which threatened its survival. The 23rd festival last year at one stage looked like being the last.

A huge deficit faced the festival’s organisers with bankruptcy, but a mixture of budget cuts and financial support from the local business sector have saved the event.

And although the number of big names performing there will not as great as in previous years, an attractive programme has been put together, which includes Ziggy (son of Bob) Marley, Macy Gray and Huey Lewis. Among the Swiss bands appearing are the Lovebugs.

Organisers say they are well on the way to selling the 23,000 three-day tickets needed to break even.

From Friday to Sunday, over 30 bands will be performing on two stages in St Gallen.
