Sulza Infra, part of the Sulzer technology corporation, says it has acquired the Swiss engineering consulting firm JCS Ingenieurbüro in Basel for an undisclosed sum.
A statement from Sulzer Infra headquarters in Winterthur said the deal gave the company “significant competence in industrial automation and electrical technology, above all for the pharmaceuticals industry”.
It added that the acquisition represented a further step in Sulzer Infra’s strategic realignment to an international provider of specialised infrastructure services for buildings, industry and communication technology.
The pharmaceuticals industry is important for the Sulzer Infra Engineering Contracting division since customer processes in this market segment demand high standards of infrastructure technology, and quality and compliance with the most stringent worldwide regulations.
The statement said that together with the existing pharmaceutical process know-how, years of experience in cleanroom technology and well-proven project management competence, Sulzer Infra was now well positioned as a specialist in planning and design of pharmaceutical installations.
With about 5,300 employees in Europe and Brazil, Sulzer Infra recorded sales for 1998 of around SFr1.2 billion. JCS sales for 1999 totalled SFR6 million with 35 employees.
